Cobb County Jail

Medications

Interview with Harry, Qtip, Hanna, DoneMyTime, Linda, Missy and Josh

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Harry: I never took any meds but some people took them regularly.
Qtip: yes
Hanna: I did not take any medication, but yes there was access to medication, but it wasn't always the same medication you had been taking on the outside.
DoneMyTime: if you request it
Linda: NO. I HAD TO WRITE SEVERAL GRIEVENCE WHILE I WAS THERE. I WAS DENIDE CARE SEVERAL TIMES. I WITTNESSED A LADY GOING INTO CARDIAC ARREST AND NOTHING WAS DONE UNTIL WE CALLED HER FAMILY.
Missy: NO.IF YOU HAD A HEADACHE OR TOOTHACHE YOU HAD TO WAIT UNTIL PILL CALL AND EVEN THEN YOU HAD TO FILL OUT A FORM TO GET GENERIC BRAND TYLENOL.
Josh: Yes, but one may miss if transferred to another pod or if the courier is out of the prescribed medication that day.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Harry: The nurse came around to each pod and called your name.
Qtip: 1 a day
Hanna: They came around twice a day for "pill call".
DoneMyTime: did not need
Linda: BOUGHT TYLENOL FROM THE JAIL STORE OR OTHER SOURCES.
Missy: DIDN'T HAVE ANY.
Josh: Courier makes rounds.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs?
Harry: You would spend time in the hole, and then appear in court for additional charges.
Qtip: i dont know i dont think u can abuse drugs
Hanna: I never experienced anyone getting into trouble for this but I am assuming they take you to the holding cell, and charge you appropriately.
DoneMyTime: don't know
Linda: NONE THE INMATES GOT AWAY WITH SHARING PILLS.
Missy: LOCK DOWN OR POSSIBLE ANOTHER CHARGE.
Josh: If a Hearing Officer finds a violation, an inmate may lose commissary, visitation, "good time credit" or be transferred to a higher security level pod or prosecuted.

If you have meds from a doctor and you take them in with you then yes they will give them to you but maybe only 2 times a day though. In Cobb the pill calls are at 10am and 10pm. If you have no money on your books they will still see you. Some times they see you fast and some times they dont but you will be fine. Money on your books is how you pay for the medical care that i think was $5. To get a tooth pulled its $5 a tooth. And yes about the male guards and female guards watching the others. If you go in then you will be detoxed and it works just fine. If you have a narcotic drug then I dont think they will give you any because they say they dont have drugs like that there at the jail.

I seen alot of staff infections in there but never had one my self. To keep from getting one then take showers everyday and watch what you do in there. Cuts and walking can do it but I walked alot. If your in jail for so long and was on probation then feel out a green paper to find out your PO's address and wright them fast to find out whats going on or get a court appointed attorney to get it started. If you dont do anything then you will be there for a long time most likely doing time served. The jail DOES help you with medical problems. Even if they have to take you to the hospital. Iv done it before. Good luck.

If I bring my medications that are taken at 3 different times of day, will those be provided to me at all, and if so, will they divide it up into the 3 times a day?

Will medical care be denied if an inmate is not capable of paying for it?
Have you heard of anyone having trouble with obtaining medical care?
Will money sent to an inmate or money they have on their person when incarcerated be taken from the inmate to pay for medical care or processing fees, etc.?
Are destitute inmates given an opportunity to communicate with the outside by mail. Do all, or most, phone calls allowed to inmates make money for the jail. In other words does the jail attempt to offset costs by charging for communication.
Are male guards used to monitor/transport females? Are female guards allowed to monitor/transport males?
Are traffic violaters or any other type of victimless crimes placed in proximity to violent inmates.
Are women who find they are pregnant or become pregnant in jail allowed access to a pregnancy termination?
Is protective custody the same as the hole, and what is the difference?
Is a person who is taking an addictive drugs under the care of a doctor at the time they are incarcerated given those same drugs in jail?
If not, is some type of medical care given them to safely detox?
Have you heard of anyone dying or being injured due to physical or mental symtoms of addictive drug withdrawal?Have guards been injured and in consequence inmates due to physical or mental symptoms of addictive drug withdrawal?

My nephew is in Cobb County jail right now with a staff infection that is not getting well. He has a gaping hole in his leg with pus running out of it. They have gave him some antibiotics but he needs medical treatment outside the jail. My brother just died on July 1st 2009 of MRSA infection in his body. This will kill him if he doesn't get some medical attention.

He has been in jail for over 100 days now with no bail, no hearings, nothing. Has not been charged or sentenced. He was picked up for violating a TPO but can they keep you forever without a bond?
